Our philosophy

Taking something away is easy. Giving something back is the work.

Five things we believe, and that shape every decision in Phone Use Blocker.

01

Attention is the one thing you really own.

Every hour of a day gets spent on something. The apps on your phone are built by very capable teams whose job is to make sure it gets spent with them.

We are not against phones. We are against the lopsidedness of that contest: one tired person at 10 PM versus a feed designed never to end.

02

Willpower is the wrong tool.

If self-control were enough, a screen-time report would have fixed this years ago. Knowing the number does not change the number.

What changes behaviour is changing the moment itself: what is easy, what is in front of you, what happens when your thumb goes looking.

03

A block is a question, not a wall.

Remove a distraction and you leave a gap. Gaps get filled, usually by the next most distracting thing.

So a block should come with an answer to "then what?". The answer is the habit you already told us you wanted: the book, the walk, the sleep, the work.

04

AI should work for the person holding the phone.

The same kind of technology that learns what keeps you scrolling can learn what helps you stop. We want it pointed in that direction.

For us AI is not a feature to advertise. It is how the blocker gets to know your patterns well enough to step in at the right time, and stay out of the way the rest of it.

05

The goal is to be needed less.

A habit that only survives while an app enforces it is not a habit yet. We would like Phone Use Blocker to become quieter over time, because you no longer need the nudge.

That is a strange thing for a product to aim for. We think it is the only honest aim for this one.

Beliefs are cheap. See how we hold ourselves to them.
